Halloween 2010!

So as the story goes, we were cruising through Old Navy one day and Aidan spotted this costume. Now granted, we as the parents, with these two little guys being of age where having the "coolest" costume is not really important and what is more important to us is that we have really cute somewhat matching costumes. Well, I think we succeeded on the cute but the matching.....not so much.

So, back to the story. Aidan found this costume at Old Navy and was about to throw a fit if we didnt' get it. So what was it? A Cheeseburger. Aidan LOVED the cheeseburger costume. And with Ethan getting the ultra-cute Elephant hand-me-down from two year ago, we had our match....A Cheeseburger and an Elephant.

It was actually quite a story with Ethan and the elephant. It was that exact costume that Aidan wore on the plane and the one that we used to announce to my Mom, Sister and Brother that we were having another baby (which turned out to be Ethan). Aidan's costume was really cool though....I liked it a lot, too bad we couldn't find a ketchup packet for Aidan and the hot dog costume for Allie, we would have been all set for a BBQ!

The Great Pumpkin visited Auntie E's and brought some gifts:

I love this picture...it really shows how big Ethan is getting. It won't be long and both of these guys are going to be huge!

After a great dinner at Auntie E's, we headed back to our house and did some Trick-or-Treating of our own. We only visited a few of our neighbors, Aidan did have fun but was pretty hesitent (which is good for a 3 year old). But all in all we saw some great costumes and they even had a fire truck in our neighborhood passing out candy!

Earlier in the week Mommy had sent a pattern for us to do some pumpkin carving with. So with knife in hand, Tuesday night, we did some carving. The pumpkin looked good for one day...but due to drying out, it looks unrecognizable now. But oh well...

And finally tonight, we heard that Grammy P has to put down one of her horses tomorrow, Breezy. Breezy developed some foot issues and is quite an old horse (28), but still was a good horse and a big part of Grammy P's life. We are sorry Grammy P.

A Magical House!

We packed up the fam very early on Saturday and gave The Magic House another try. Granted, last time was a terrible experience mostly because we went during the Christmas break and they didn't have their new wing built yet. But now, we'd have to say, it's pretty nice. Some of the older attractions are a little dated and the house part is pretty cramped, but....the new wing is wide open and very nice.

Our first exhibit was visited was the Reuse-Renew-Recycle area where Aidan and Ethan got to experience a SmartCar.

Today, Grammy P and Grandpa Jim came through and spent the day with us before heading to Iowa tomorrow. We had a ton of fun playing with them out back.

October 20th, 2000....The Day That Our World Changed Forever.

Ten Years.....10 Years! Diez Anos!!

Exactly 10 years ago tonight, I met my Emmy. It is hardly believable how chance and luck can change your life in an instant....and it did for us, and most certainly for the better.

It's really awe striking to think that I've known Emmy now for 10 years. What an amazing 10 years it has been. From the fun of being a couple in college, to taking that unbelievable step and moving together...to Colorado...where we knew no one, to living together for the first time in Colorado, to our engagement in City Center Park under the night lights of the Denver skyline, to moving to St. Louis, getting married in Cincinnati, having our first love of our lives together (that would be Allie the Dachshund), to new jobs and a new house, to numerous vacations and fun events together as a twosome, to the just unspeakable excitement of having Aidan, to the amazing baby fun that he was, to the remarkable ease of having Ethan and the multiplying (not dividing) of love that he brought us......to now.

"Life is not the amount of breaths you take, it's the moments that take your breath away."

That night was the first night that I ever had my breath taken away. It's always taboo to say "love at first sight" or whatever, but there was something very special about Emmy, and I KNEW it.

Here's my story:

After a rousing start to the day; my roommate Brad and I had driven clear up to the Fairfield area out in the middle of nowhere to an Army/Navy surplus store to get authentic flight suits to be Maverick and Goose, we rushed back, through on some patches that I had printed and got ready for our annual Halloween party at our house, which was named "The Igloo". After a few hours of grilling out and "light partying", the tiki torches came out, the music was turned on and the keg was tapped. People started trickling in, including oddly enough, or friend Nick (who was some sort of female nurse, complete with lipstick and two apples for breasts) and three girls, two of which were doctors and one Blue M&M. As the night progressed, I did my normal mingling, asking if everyone was having fun, and of course, having fun myself. I then came across a very lonely looking Blue M&M. She was standing outside, all by herself. So I introduced myself, asked her if she was having fun, if she needed another beer (because it was MY house, I'd go right to the front of the line for her). We chit-chatted for a bit, about the house, who she was with, our tastes in music.

So for the rest of the night, we had fun together, doing the typical party things; dancing, talking, drinking, and laughing. It wasn't very late (probably around 1130) when she and her friends left our party, and I will admit I was sad to see her go. We were having a great time (but I think her friends were not), and I was really enjoying her company (dancing of course). Thank goodness that John and Peggy (Grandpa John and Grammy P) named her such a unique name, because I was able to go up to my room and look her up in the University of Cincinnati email registry and find her. Call it cyberstalking, call it weird, call it whatever...this was my chance and I nailed it.

And it wasn't too long later that I got a call and the rest as they say...was history.

Here's what we looked like on the night of the party....it is amazing how life can change for so so much for the better in an instant! I love you Emmylou!!

The End of Soccer 2010

Well soccer is finished now for the year and I think the big guy really enjoyed his first organized sports experience. Overall, I think that he is a really skilled player, he can dribble the ball and shoot very well. He listens to the coaches almost all of the time and definitely interacts well with his teammates. The one thing that we will continue to work on is his drive and aggressiveness towards the ball. I'm sure it will come with age (and realize too that he's one of the youngest kids out there), so really as long as he's enjoying himself and his team, this soccer thing just might stick....and that would be OK with us. Our session this time was really no pressure and no expectations and I can assure you from the first night until tonight, each player really did improve (some by a lot). It was fun and I'm glad I was a coach...it was a challenge and a reward to learn all those kids by name and try to keep them corraled the best I could.

On another great Aidan news, he and Mommy headed to the dentist on Monday and Aidan came out with flying colors! No cavity bugs and lots and lots a praise for brushing good, floride rinsing good and flossing good! Way to go Aidan!!

Here he is on "the chair". They let big guys were sunglasses so the light doesn't bother their eyes. Emmy said that he did wonderful and that the dental hygenist even said, "is he always this calm and courteous"...yep he is...what a great guy!
