The Big Unveiling is Here!!

I present to you our newly completed kitchen and living room!!

A tremendous endeavour, one that we have been working since Mid-December. And now it is finally completed!! Just a few touch ups here and there left and some decorating, but for the most part, it's done!

So, what in the world have we been working on. Well, for starters, I stripped, sanded and painted the cabinets, attached hardware and new hinges, stained the ground lines on the tile, installed new trim, paid to have granite countertops and an under mount sink put in, installed the faucet and pluming, laid up tumbled marble tile and grouted, hung new curtains, bought some plants (yes, we needed plants bad), replaced all the outlet covers with Stainless, replaced doorknobs from gold to silver, added crown moulding to the cabinets, painted the eyeball lights in the living room, sanded and painted the banister and fireplace mantle, and got a new picture (which Mommy picked out and I really like, even though it's a little out of our typical comfort zone) for above the fireplace.

All in all, a lot of work and I couldn't have done it at all without Emmy's help with the two boys. There were nights I worked late that she covered bath duties on top of all the other chores that we have to get done around here....so to her, thank you Emmy.

Here's a tour, enjoy!

So a quick before and after with our "chef":
In April 2010

Today.

Daddy smiling big now that another major home renovation project is finished!

Mommy posing and loving her new kitchen!

Our colors changed a little to more of a darker natural tone, so the new rug was a perfect match. Also you can see the new trim here, with the high trim and "shoe" moulding. Nice.

Really happy how my bookcase came through, it's the perfect functional spot that we needed to keep our cookbooks in. (and it added about 4 square feet of countertop space).

Looking into the living room. I love the new plants we got, they really break up the space nicely.

Close up of the slide-in range and tile work. The tile and grout combo was exactly what we wanted, muted (so the countertop would be the highlight), but variant to allow some break up before your eye caught the cabinetry. Love, love it.

The fan and couches are the next things that will be replaced. We're in the market for new sectional style couches, but it may have to wait a bit until the funding comes back around.

We toned down all the pictures and figurines that used to be along the wall shelves, this minimalist approach seems to make the room more clean.

That's it!

Ok, now onto the boys (of course)...

Well it was a nicer day on Saturday so we were able to take some time to get outside. Aid wanted to play baseball and Ethan was just intent on watching him and laughing along the way (which there is no one that laughs more at Aidan than Ethan).

Mr. Smiley at close range.

Brothers playing...

Ball retriever...:-)

Taking it all in, learning from his brother every day!

It's that time again this year for planting seeds inside to grow in the summer. If you remember last year we did sunflowers and tomatoes. This year we did the same. 4 sunflower plants and 2 cherry tomato plants....time will tell on how big they get!

Got his gardening gloves....

And ready to plant!

A happy boy coming out at naptime is a good thing!

That's all for tonight. Thank you for reading and please come and see us so we all can enjoy our new space!!

Have a great night,
Ty, Emmy, Aidan and Ethan
